U.S. AND INDIA: DOING BUSINESS IN TODAY'S ECONOMY
22-Jan-2009

Trevor Fitzsimmons of Dua AFG attended a very successful event which was held on January 10th 2009 in the ballroom at The Oberoi hotel in New Delhi, India. The event was held in conjunction with the ABA Section of International Law, the US India Business Council and PLi, the Practising Law Institute.

Eminent speakers included MP Abishek Singhvi, the Minister of Law & Justice H.R. Bhardwaj, the Minister of State for Industries Ashwani Kumar, Acting Economic Minister-Counselor U.S. Embassy John Fennerty and Fali Nariman, the Supreme Court Senior Advocate and President of the Bar Association of India.

Whilst there was certainly a legal focus to the proceedings, the theme of doing business was never far from the surface. There were presentations and panel discussions on;

     - I.T. & Outsourcing
     - Managing Mergers and Acquisitions
     - Private Equity and Venture Capital
     - Infrastructure and Project Finance
     - Anti-Corruption Issues

Wisely, there was also ample time put aside for networking opportunities.

Whilst acknowledging the current global financial concerns, there were two positive messages that emerged;

a) India is open for business and looking forward and
b) The India USA relationship has rarely, if ever, been stronger.
